It’s become as much a tradition to invite friends and family around for an Easter Sunday celebration as it has for Christmas dinner. And like for any special occasion, it’s worth planning ahead to ensure a stress-free and delicious tasty Easter roast.
As the butchers at Hugh Phillips Gower Butchers gear themselves up for a busy Easter preparing the most popular, seasonal joints to sell at our Swansea Market shop and online platform, we thought we’d give you some tips on how to ensure you serve up the tastiest of roasts at your dinner table.
Essential Easter Roast Lamb
The tradition of eating lamb on Easter Sunday is observed throughout the world and has its roots in Christianity. Easter coincides with spring lamb, which is when the meat is at its most tender. Roast lamb studded with rosemary and garlic is a classic combination and a simple way to enhance the flavour of spring lamb.
Locally sourced from the Gower and surrounding areas our lambs are hand-picked by us from farms with whom we have long established relationships. If you fancy a leg of lamb this Easter, we ‘Welsh dress’ our joints so they will self-baste when roasting. We recommend serving the lamb on the bone for extra flavour.
Easter Ham Joint
If you don’t fancy lamb this Easter, so why not opt for something different? Gammon and Bacon joints are increasingly becoming a seasonal favourite. Easy to prepare and delicious served with new potatoes, a selection of green veg and home-made parsley sauce, you can’t go wrong with this tasty Easter option; and there’s usually enough left over for a delicious sandwich served on crusty bread with pickle.
At Hugh Phillips Gower Butchers, our traditional bacon joints are cured to the highest standards with just the right amount of fat covering each piece for perfect flavour. Each bacon joint is cut fresh to order guaranteeing lean slices with no added water and very low in salt. We also offer Gammon steaks which are also easy to prepare for an Easter Treat. And, as with all our pork products, the pigs are sourced from our nearest local farm in the Gelliwen Valley of Carmarthenshire.
We love this bacon joint recipe from the Good To Know website which is served with a variety of seasonal vegetables for an easy-to-prepare Easter meal.
